Absolutely! We use only high quality, biocompatible body jewelry. The primary materials are mirror polished implant grade titanium and solid gold. Our rings are often implant grade surgical steel rather than titanium so they can be bent for easy removal and insertion. See our jewelry page for more jewelry information.
The finish on the jewelry is just as important as the material itself. Small scratches on the surface of the jewelry will prolong the healing period because the newly forming skin heals into those small scratches and causes tissue damage when the jewelry is moved and the new tissue is torn by the scratches in the jewerly.
We have a large jewelry collection in the studio and offer custom order options if you’re looking for something specific. All of our posts are implant grade titanium. Some rings are implant grade surgical steel as it is more malleable and can be bent for installation. We stock 14k and 18k solid gold ends and rings and many genuine gemstones with a few lab made cabochons and cubic zirconia.
We can often re-use threadless or threaded ends for a new piercing at the piercer’s discretion as long as they meet our quality standards, are appropriate for the piercing you are looking to receive and are in appropriate condition to heal a fresh piercing. The final decision on whether to use your jewelry will be made by your piercer at the time of your appointment.
To reuse an end from your collection, drop your jewelry off at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment during our business hours to allow us to clean and sterilize your jewelry. A $10+ sterilization fee (depending on how many pieces of jewelry) will apply whether we are able to use your jewelry or not.
We require the purchase of a new post from our studio for every new piercing. Even if properly cleaned and sterilized, a post can still have trace amounts of biofilm and impede the healing process. The finish on the post is important in successfully healing a new piercing as well and any little knicks or scratches in the jewelry can slow the healing process considerably.
At the time of your check up, if you have posts that are the proper length and gauge for your healed piercing, we can re-use those pieces after a quick sterilization by your piercer.
If you are looking to change jewelry in a healed piercing, you may bring in pieces from your collection. Ultimately it is up to the piercer’s discretion based upon the jewelry quality, finish and sizing whether it can be used. We will not install low quality jewelry as it is not biocompatible, meaning not meant for long term wear.
We don’t have photos of our jewelry categorized by piercing. You can visit our jewelry page for some jewelry photos, but the best way to view jewelry options is to stop into the studio.
We use single use, hollow needles for every single piercing service. Our jewelry is sterilized with either a Statim 2000 or a Midmark M11. All of our reusable tools are processed daily with ultrasonics and run through either a Midmark M11 or Ritter M7 autoclave in self seal bags to keep them sterile for up to 6 months. We are regularly inspected by the Minnesota Deparment of Health to be sure all of our processes and procedures adhere to the state standards. Additionally, our studio is compliant with the environmental criteria for the APP (Association of Professional Piercers).
The Association of Professional Piercers (APP) is an international health and safety organization made up of a voluntary alliance of piercing professionals who help disseminate the most up to date information concerning body piercing. Studios with APP members have to meet specific environmental criteria such as closed spaces for bio rooms, specific procedures for handling biohazardous jewelry, non-porous surfaces that can be disinfected, monitored spore testing (to ensure autoclaves are working properly), and specific jewelry requirements for new piercings to name a few. A studio can not be a member of the APP but APP members must be employed at studios that uphold the environmental criteria required by the APP with walk through videos submitted bi-yearly. All of the body piercers on staff are members of the APP along with all of our counter staff, our jewelry specialist and manager. We have over 10 members of the APP on staff at Leviticus.
The APP can also help you find a reputable piercer in your area or if you’re traveling. Check out their website safepiercing.org
We use a single use, hollow needle for every piercing done at Leviticus.
Piercing guns are never used as they cause trauma to the piecing site. They cannot be sterilized and use dull jewelry for the piercing which causes tissue damage. The end result of a piercing with a gun is often ill fitting, uncomfortable jewelry with a high chance for an improper piercing angle.
Minors are not allowed in the studio unless they are scheduled for a piercing appointment and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Due to liability reasons, no one under 18 is allowed in the studio or in service areas. The ONLY exception is for a previously scheduled minor piercing appointment. If you arrive at your scheduled appointment with a minor in tow, you will need to reschedule your appointment for a later date.
There are strict guidelines when piercing minors issued by the Minnesota Department of Health. We MUST have all of the documentation listed in order to pierce, check on or change jewelry for minors. We are not able to make any exceptions to this policy. This documentation is required for every appointment.
MINOR DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS
We limit minors to two piercing services in one session.
The Minnesota Department of Heath and Minnesota Laws state we may not perform nipple or genital piercing, surface bar or microdermal anchors on any minor regardless of parental consent. Aside from this, the rest are Leviticus policies and not state laws.
A legal parent/guardian with proper documentation must be the adult accompanying the minor to their appointment. We also ask that you do not bring any other minors along.
Depending on the piercing as well as when, where and how you are traveling our piercers *may* suggest you wait to get pierced until after you return. Typically we aim to give you all of the information including risks and let you make your own decision except for in extreme cases where our piercer reserves the right to turn down performing the piercing.
Flying after an initial piercing can increase your risk of a longer and potentially rougher healing process. The cabin pressure in the plane can lead to an increase in frequency as well as severity of swelling.
We discourage swimming after receiving a fresh piercing. These activities can increase your chances of a longer and more painful healing process, frequently resulting in the piercing being removed. You do not want to submerge a fresh piercing for a minimum of 8 weeks. This includes bathtubs, swimming pools and hot tubs. Showering is encouraged.
No. There are many reasons not to use numbing cream for piercing services.
Topical lidocaine does not numb the entirety of the tissue and will not be fully effective.
Lidocaine changes the vascularity of your tissue which could result in a crooked piercing when the tissue settles and vascularity returns to normal.
We decline piercing services on a client who is on Accutane as it impedes the body’s ability to heal.
We ask that you wait six months after your last dose to receive a new piercing.
We are able to help you change jewelry in a healed piercing while on Accutane.
You are welcome to bring support with you to your appointment to help you choose jewelry. They will be asked to wait in the lobby for the service.
Only the client receiving the service is allowed in the piercing room due to limited space and liability reasons.
Videos are not allowed in the piercing room.
Photos are allowed as long as it is cleared with the piercer and does not interfere with the piercing process.
You want to wear your initial jewelry for the first 4-6 weeks and downsize the post as the swelling subsides.
In oral piercing, downsizing is often done once around 2 weeks after your initial appointment and again once the tissue has returned to normal. As the swelling subsides, the longer jewelry can snag on teeth and gums causing irritation and lead to longer healing times.
The length of the healing period varies among clients and the piercing location. See our service menu for estimated healing times for each piercing.
Once your piercing is fully healed, see our service menu for estimated healing times, you may change your jewelry when you’d like. We are always happy to assist you so the newly formed and delicate tissue is not damaged in the process.
If you want to keep your piercing, it is never recommend to take jewelry out for an extended period of time. Removing and reinstalling jewelry can cause tissue trauma that may require healing time.
Some piercings stay open longer than other without jewelry in place. How long piercings take to “close up” caries greatly from person to person.
The longer you’ve had a piercing, the more likely it is to stay open without jewelry.
Piercings typically don’t fully heal, they often shrink to a size that makes reinsertion difficult or impossible. In this scenario we can often stretch the piercing back open with a taper.
The best way to find out how long you can leave your piercing out is trial and error with gradually increasing periods without wearing jewelry. Take it out for an hour, put it back in. If it goes in easily, try a bit longer next time. If you have trouble getting jewelry back in, leave it in for a while before trying to leave it out for an extended time again.
Healing times vary among clients and have different healing ranges. See our services section for estimated healing time for each piercing.
Diligently following aftercare will help speed up the healing process. Touching your piercing, using improper aftercare products and moving jewelry unnecessarily will prolong the healing period.
We will not perform piercing services or microdermal removal while pregnant.
We can change jewelry in healed piercings if necessary but prefer to wait until after the pregnancy as the body is already working hard on making a new human and we do not want to impede that process in any way, especially for cosmetic changes.
We can book an appointment 6 months postpartum if you are breastfeeding. We will talk about how you are feeling, discuss lifestyle and decide together whether to move forward.
We will not pierce nipples while breastfeeding.
We recommend waiting a minimum of 6 months postpartum for any new piercing services.
At this point, we will also have a discussion about lifestyle as this may not be the best time to heal a new piercing.
If a piercing is still healing when you become pregnant, it is often best to remove it so your immune system can be fully devoted to your baby.
Some clients are able to wear their navel piercing throughout their pregnancy. Some find it more comfortable to replace with a flexible plastic barbell or remove the jewelry entirely. Doctors sometimes request it be removed in the case the client must go into surgery during delivery.
If you’ve taken jewelry out of a healed and well established piercing due to pregnancy, changes are high we’re usually able to reopen the piercing after delivery. We want to wait 6 months postpartum to put jewelry back in but the sooner we’re able to re-open the piercing, the more likely we will be able to get jewelry in.
Nipple piercings have no adverse effect on breast feeding as milk is secreted through glands located throughout the nipple.
Jewelry should be removed during breastfeeding due to frequency and tenderness during breastfeeding and kept out until the little one is weaned.
Occasionally we can reopen nipple piercings after the little one is weekend. If they cannot be stretched back often, we can often pierce them again in the same location.
No.
Snake eye piercings results in the two muscles in the tongue being pinned together when they are supposed to be able to move independently for mastication and speech. If often causes permanent damage to the teeth and gums. can cause the two muscles in the tongue to fuse together, potentially causing permanent damage, including speech impediments. It also can potentially cause damage to the teeth.
Anti-eyebrow piercings are a surface piercing which we do not offer in our studio.
